Every business has its own language—and the business of philanthropy is no different. Rotarian Susan Lloyd, PhD, executive director of the Zilber Family Foundation, talked to Rotary about “strategic philanthropy.” She explained how making an impact through charitable giving has more to do with strategy and risk-taking than gift size …that it’s more about what you know and how you know it, than about having all the answers…more about the connections and partnerships that unfold, than about knowing the right people. Using the Foundation’s strategy to improve the quality of community life as one example, Susan dicussed what’s worked, what hasn’t, what’s next, and why it’s important to the city’s future.
