Dr. Michael R. Lovell is the 24th president of Marquette University and the first lay president in the university’s 134-year history. At Marquette, he has blended initiatives emphasizing innovation, entrepreneurship, and community renewal and development. Internally he has focused on strengthening the university’s leadership team, and establishing and moving forward the new Strategic Innovation Fund. There is renewed attention on the university’s neighborhood through the Near West Side Partners. New possibilities are being explored for its academics, research and athletic teams, and its relationship with the Milwaukee Bucks through the development of the Athletic Performance and Research Center.
